How to Reach the 7,000m Hadal Trench

In Krillion, correct answers don't win games; rare answers do. If you type "Canada" for a Commonwealth nation, you sink barely 100 meters. If you type "Tuvalu", your submarine plunges into the abyss. Here is how to retrain your brain for Hadal depth.

The 5 Oceanic Rarity Tiers

Every prompt calculates your depth based on how frequently other players submitted the same valid answer:

01

Epipelagic Zone (Surface)

0m – 200m

Obvious, top-of-mind answers shared by 30%+ of players. You gain minimal points and your submarine stays near surface waters.

Sample (European Countries) France, Germany, Italy
Pro Tip Avoid the first 3 answers that come to your mind. They are almost guaranteed to land here.
02

Mesopelagic Zone (Twilight)

200m – 1,000m

Mainstream trivia knowledge. Light rapidly dims. Represents solid casual players who know their geography and pop culture.

Sample (European Countries) Poland, Portugal, Austria
Pro Tip A dependable safe zone if you have 5 seconds remaining and need to bank a verified answer.
03

Bathypelagic Zone (Midnight)

1,000m – 4,000m

Complete pitch black. You are actively beating 80% of players. Requires targeted secondary recall.

Sample (European Countries) Slovenia, North Macedonia, Estonia
Pro Tip Think of smaller sovereign states, niche capitals, and second-tier historical figures.
04

Abyssopelagic Zone (The Abyss)

4,000m – 6,000m

Near-freezing temperatures and crushing pressure. Only expert trivia enthusiasts reach this tier consistently.

Sample (European Countries) Liechtenstein, Monaco, Andorra
Pro Tip Micro-states, non-contiguous territories, and obscure technical terms shine here.
05

Hadal Trench (The Deepest Abyss)

6,000m – 7,500m+

The Mariana Trench of trivia. Accurate answers recalled by fewer than 1.5% of all participants. Max score jackpot.

Sample (European Countries) San Marino, Vatican City
Pro Tip Double-check spelling! An obscure answer misspelled awards 0 meters, which is catastrophic.

4 Rules for Surviving the 25-Second Clock

RULE #1

The "First Thought" Discard Rule

When a prompt appears, your subconscious instantly surfaces the most publicized, mainstream candidate (e.g. Prompt: "Cold War event" $\rightarrow$ Thought: "Cuban Missile Crisis"). Never type your first thought. Use the first 5 seconds to mentally discard the top 3 mainstream choices.

RULE #2

Beware the "Too Clever" Trap

The single most punishing mistake is submitting an ultra-obscure answer with a typo, or an entity so obscure that the game dictionary doesn't recognize it. A rejected answer yields 0 meters. If you are uncertain about exact spelling by second 18, fall back to a known 3,000m answer.

RULE #3

Anchor to Micro-States & Peripheries

In geography, memorize the 5 European micro-states (Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City) and Pacific island nations (Nauru, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Palau). They frequently fit multi-criteria prompts (monarchies, landlocked, islands) and deliver consistent 6,000m+ depth.
